Ogden-Hinckley Airport Earns 2026 ABC Excellence in Construction Award

KIER Construction is proud to announce that the Ogden-Hinckley Airport Terminal Expansion has received the 2026 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Excellence in Construction® Award in the Tenant Improvement Over $1 Million category.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement in construction excellence, honoring projects that demonstrate exceptional quality, innovation, safety, and project management. The Ogden-Hinckley Airport Terminal Expansion stood out for its successful delivery within a highly complex, active airport environment while significantly enhancing the passenger experience for Northern Utah travelers.

Located in Ogden, Utah, the 22,747-square-foot terminal expansion was completed in November 2025 for Ogden City Corporation. Designed by Sanders Associates Architects, the project was developed to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and position the airport for future growth as a key regional transportation hub.

The expansion includes renovated airline ticketing and rental car areas, an upgraded baggage handling system, a new TSA screening area, and expanded passenger services. The open-concept design improves wayfinding, circulation, and operational efficiency while creating a welcoming gateway that reflects the history and spirit of Ogden.

Delivering the project required extraordinary coordination among numerous stakeholders, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Ogden City, Weber County, Breeze Airways, and Hill Air Force Base. Because construction occurred within an active regional airport, the team carefully phased work to maintain uninterrupted airport operations while adhering to strict safety and regulatory requirements.

The project team successfully navigated several significant challenges, including unexpected underground utility conflicts, Build America, Buy America compliance requirements, aircraft routing adjustments, and the installation of a complete fire sprinkler system throughout the existing terminal without disrupting airport operations. Through proactive planning and innovative problem-solving, the team delivered solutions that maintained project momentum while preserving safety and operational continuity.

Despite these complexities, the project was completed approximately six weeks ahead of schedule—a testament to the team’s strong preconstruction planning, efficient sequencing, and ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions in the field.

The terminal expansion also incorporates sustainable design features, including high-performance glazing, daylighting strategies, and energy-efficient mechanical and lighting systems. These improvements help reduce the facility’s environmental footprint while creating a modern, durable space built to serve the community for decades to come.

The 2026 ABC Excellence in Construction Award recognizes not only the project’s outstanding craftsmanship and quality but also its role in supporting the continued growth of air travel in Northern Utah. As passenger demand continues to increase, the expanded terminal will help Ogden-Hinckley Airport better serve residents, visitors, and businesses throughout the region for years to come.
