KIER Construction recently joined Lake Union Partners and PUBLIC47 Architects to celebrate the groundbreaking of Granary Lofts, the third phase in the ongoing transformation of Salt Lake City’s Granary District. While the ceremony marked the start of a new project, it was also a chance to reflect on how much the district has changed over the past decade.

The day began with a tour of the first two completed phases, giving the ownership, design, and construction teams an opportunity to see the progress firsthand. Walking through Granary Campus and The Journeyman showed how each phase has built on the last, transforming a collection of historic industrial buildings into a vibrant neighborhood with housing, retail, hospitality, recreation, and places for the community to gather.

Completed in 2022, Granary Campus brought new life to five historic warehouses dating back to the 1890s. The adaptive reuse project preserved the character of the original buildings while creating a destination for retail, dining, hospitality, recreation, and community gathering spaces. 

That momentum continued with The Journeyman, completed in 2025. The mixed-use residential community added 184 apartment homes above structured parking with ground-floor retail and resident amenities, helping the Granary District continue to grow as a walkable urban neighborhood. 

Now, Granary Lofts will build on that foundation. The approximately 42,873-square-foot community will add 52 new residences, including a mix of townhome-style and mezzanine units, along with shared amenity spaces and a rooftop lounge designed to bring residents together. 

For KIER, it’s exciting to be part of another chapter in a project that continues to shape this area of Salt Lake City. Seeing the completed phases alongside the future project site was a reminder that meaningful development happens over time, with each phase contributing to a larger vision.
