Building Community Together: The Cooperative 1881 Groundbreaking Ceremony

Today we had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for The Cooperative 1881 in Salt Lake City — a project that represents so much more than a new building. Throughout the ceremony, one message continued to resonate in every speech: the power of people coming together to strengthen and uplift Utah communities.

The Cooperative 1881 is a reminder of the positive impact projects like these can have across an entire community. By creating 199 affordable housing units near the TRAX line along North Temple, this development will help provide greater access to housing, transportation, and opportunities for growth for individuals and families in the area.

What made the ceremony especially meaningful was hearing the shared passion from everyone involved. It was clear that this project has been built on collaboration, vision, and a genuine desire to strengthen the community for years to come.

We are incredibly grateful for the partnership and dedication of 22 Communities, Garn Development, Utah Housing Corporation, First Community Bank, and the entire project team. The planning, support, and funding behind this project reflect what can happen when organizations work together toward a common goal.

We are honored to play a role in bringing this project to life and excited to watch it take shape over the coming years. The Cooperative 1881 is expected to be completed near the beginning of 2028, and we look forward to seeing the lasting impact it will have on the North Temple community and the people who will call it home.
