It took a great deal of heart, effort, and collaboration to navigate—and ultimately renovate—the long-vacant Stratford Apartments at Second and Second in Salt Lake City. Today, the completed project stands as a testament to perseverance, partnership, and purpose.
On March 25th, KIER Construction proudly joined First Step House, along with city and state officials, lending partners, ownership representatives, and local news outlets, to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the newly revitalized Stratford Apartments. The event marked the culmination of a shared vision: transforming a neglected property into a place of healing, stability, and opportunity.
First Step House acquired the Stratford in 2022, led by Executive Director Shawn McMillen. As the community rallied around the effort to convert the aging, affordable housing units into permanent supportive housing, KIER was honored to help bring that vision to life.
The renovated building now provides 46 supportive studio apartments for individuals recovering from behavioral health challenges. Each unit represents more than a living space—it represents a fresh start and a foundation for long-term recovery.
Projects like Stratford underscore the impact that thoughtful renovation and strong partnerships can have in strengthening our communities. KIER Construction is proud to have been part of a team that turned a once-derelict space into a symbol of hope and progress for Salt Lake City.
