Project Overview
First steps are always the hardest, but they also signify the beginning of change. With that in mind KIER was honored to be chosen as the General Contractor for the new First Step House in Salt Lake City. First Step House is a facility that provides adult males with residential and outpatient substance use and behavioral health treatment, as well as transitional housing and permanent housing support.
The new facility, located at 440 S and 500 E, transformed a former one-story office building that is in close proximity to Trax and Smith’s Marketplace. KIER renovated the original building and added a two story entrance that faces 500 East. This new campus provides 50 beds, 32 of which are treatment beds. The facility also provides 18 transitional housing beds built in dormitory style with each resident having their own room. The kitchen/dining area and bathrooms are shared.
Harold Woodruff, Architect and Planner, designed the new facility.
